Reflective Writing
As I started this semester I made the most common mistake. One that I now see people make in regularly towards the Humanities. I believed that Humanities was just about art and the person that created it. I was profoundly awakened by all of the principles that make up the Humanities. Learning about the human condition and to be able to dig to the rock bottom underlying truth through all the scattered gray matter that consumes the simplest of questions or ideas has become a powerful tool. It is one that I will take with me throughout the rest of my life. Not only did I learn how to think more critically, but I found so much history that I was ignorant of. Some of it was not the most pleasant of things to hear about. Finding out the reasons why people do the things they do and act the way they act has given me more knowledge of the people in my own surroundings. I don’t go one day without running through the actions of people and formulating questions as to why they did that and I now have a hunger to learn more about the “whys”. I strive harder to understand people and their cultures and see where I fit into the picture. I have never had a professor so dedicated in her work that she is willing to go completely out of her way for them. The one thing that amazed me even more was the way we as the students were given complete control to come up with, design and develop the Humanities Day project. That right there shows her love for teaching by allowing students to grow in the manner that they need.
